Letter from a happy Redskins fan.
Welcome to the NFL Robert Griffin, III. Yes it has only been one game, but who cares, I am extremely excited. After watching RG3 complete eight passes, over 100 yards with two touchdowns before throwing his first incompletion, I couldn’t help but believe he’s the truth. It was as if I was watching someone who has been there before, not a rookie. The way he was patient and smart showed so much maturity in the sport. He did not allow the pressure the New Orleans Saints were bringing to allow him to throw a dumb pass. He worked his way out of situations, found his man and threw it right for that receiver to catch it or he scrambled and ran for the yards. (Out of all the rookie quarterbacks to start yesterday, he was the only one without an interception) He is very poised and he executed each play beautifully. Yes he had a few mistakes, but that was outweighed by how well he played.
New players and defense looked very legit as well. It was exciting also seeing young players like Alfred Morris, a sixth-round pick in the 2012 draft, out there making his name known. He made it look so easy. (Clinton Portis would be proud.) It is going to be great to watch him emerge into a star this season. Aldrick Robinson was also a sixth-round pick but in the 2011 draft and although he only caught four passes, I have a feeling we will be hearing his name a bit more this season. Pierre Garcon still has it, he caught RG3’s first NFL touchdown for 88 yards. Unfortunately, he went down but sources say his foot was sore and he should be fine. Our London Fletcher led defense looked pretty good out there. So many important stops were made, interceptions when needed, sacks, holding their offense to just a field goal, et cetera. It was great to see effort on both ends of the ball.
It’s too early to stamp a ticket to the Super Bowl but there was so much promise out there that it is going to definitely be an interesting season for us Skins fans. We scored 40 points! (Sorry that’s big after last years Redskins) Looks like we might just have plenty of reason to scream HTTR.
Redskins meet in St Louis next Sunday to face the Rams.
